Mavis Bakes and Bull Jhol (Salted Cod Salad)

  • 3 Cup flour
  • 1 pk yeast
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 oz margarine
  • ¼ Cup milk
  • Water

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, salt & sugar in a bowl
  2. Prepare yeast packet - 6 tbs (1/4 cup) lukewarm water with 1/2 tsp sugar in a glass bowl. Let sit until yeast rises
  3. Melt margarine in the microwave, let cool then add milk
  4. Make a hole in the flour - add margarine mixture then yeast
  5. Mix together then slowly add UP TO 1 cup lukewarm water. "Beat" the dough. If the dough is too sticky add a bit more flour
  6. Form into a ball, put in ziplock bag and refrigerate overnight
  7. In the morning remove from the refrigerator and let sit for about an hour.
  8. Form into balls and rub a bit of vegetable oil on each ball - microwave for 10 seconds if dough is still cold.
  9. Fry the balls in vegetable oil - oil must not be too hot or the outside will burn before the inside is cooked.
